Tools for Bonsai

BONSAI TOOLS GUIDE

BASIC BONSAI TOOLS

There are many bonsai tools on the market today from a range of brands, from Kikuwa to Kaneshin to Masakuni. Each brand has its merits, but our brand of choice at Eisei-en is Kikuwa from Japan. Kikuwa bonsai tools are made-to-last, with solid construction and sharp cutting edges. Our recommendation is that you have at least the following tools in your kit when creating bonsai trees - Scissors, Concave Cutters, Wire Cutters and Pliers. Additionally, consider adding a Knob Cutter and a Flat Root Cutter to round out your tool bag.

SHARI AND DEADWOOD TOOLS

Creating shari, or deadwood, on bonsai adds to the aged appearance of coniferous bonsai trees. One of the best tools to create such deadwood features is a set of scraping tools. These tools allow you to easily peel bark and outline an interesting shari line up the trunk of Juniper and Pine bonsai.
