Wow. Very well done Bjorn. You are articulate and knowledgeable. This was such a fascinating look at the Japanese culture which is so very different than the culture here in the US. The elevator story would just not work here in the US; that would be the epitome of discrimination. Having studied with John Naka in Southern California, I would say that his overall artistic approach to bonsai is considerably different than yours. My understanding of that difference would be how the apex is created and how that impacts the overall view of the tree. Not only are we “short term oriented,” our attention spans are decreasing dramatically, particularly our inability to read through a published article that is more than a few paragraphs long.
